John Talarico - West Coast Artist

I credit my grandparents with creating a West Coast artist.  My grandparents arrived in British Columbia in the late 1800's. Like others of their generation, they came to Canada and found work building the Trans-Canada Railroad through the wilderness of B.C.

My grandparents introduced me to the outdoors, taking my father, brother and I fishing and hunting. We explored the wilderness throughout B.C.'s magnificent Kootenay region. The Rocky Mountain scenery and wilderness inspired me so much I learned to paint them. I still spend most of my time recreating nature's beauty in landscape paintings and other work.

It seems each trip I have taken to B.C.'s west coast has touched me and influenced me. I love to watch the sailing and fishing boats by the harbor. As an artist, I try to capture the spirit and freedom of these boats and the people who use them in my corporate art and other pieces.

I have been painting since age 11, so moved was I by the beauty of this vast province British Columbia. Now in my sixties, I paint with compassion as I have experienced all that life has to offer--the bliss, the sorrow and the grace. Above all it is nature and all its beauty that has provided me with the most pleasure. This is why I try through my art to freeze beautiful moments in time for all to enjoy. And through this online art gallery I can share these moments with everyone.
